Why We Exist
In 2007, NBC Nightly News ran a report entitled “Aging without Children: Who Provides Care?” In this report, Dr. Nancy Snyderman interviewed Barbara Meltzer, a professional woman in her 60s who was caring for her elderly mother. Barbara, unmarried and without children, realized that as she aged, there would be no one to help her in the way she was caring for her mother.

Aging without Children: Who Provides Care?
Today, approximately 1 in 5 women are turning age 50 without children. This number has doubled since the 1970s and continues to rise.
However, today women lack family support for many reasons. Some experience loss through divorce or death of children or spouse. Some women are separated from family by emotional dysfunction or geographic location.

More Women Without Children
Even today, an estimated 30% of seniors have no family support. Seventy-five percent of these are women. As baby boomers age, this problem will explode. By 2020, there will be more people over age 60 than children in school, ages 5 to 19.
The time is now for a ministry to address these issues. As the senior population increases, as the population of women without children increases, and as the family continues to be threatened by divorce and dysfunction, women have a greater need than ever before for a support system equipped to meet their needs.
For these reasons, LifeVine exists to connect, equip, and serve mature adult women with limited family support to live healthier, more independent lives without fear of the future.
